The USDF L Education Program C Session covers equitation, rider biomechanics and the basics.
OVERVIEW OF COLLECTIVE MARKS The Collective Marks are the frame around the picture of the test. They should reflect the body of the test. The role of the judge is… •
  • To place the competitors in an order according to classical training principles (Correct training does not include fear or force)
  • To help riders and trainers by commenting on the marks given with words which promote the correct development of the horse
  • Assess basics in every movement using basics as foundation for Collective Marks
  • To enhance the quality of dressage riding and training
  • To uphold the standards of dressage
The basic principles must always prevail, and these are to fulfill the requirements of the Pyramid of Training. This session we will cover:
  1. Components of each Collective Mark
  2. How to arrive at a score and how to make a helpful comment
  3. Formulating “Further Remarks” that will summarize the important aspects of the test in a way that will be helpful to the rider
  4. The biomechanics of the rider to help arrive at scores and comments for the Rider Scores in the Collective Marks
The Collective Marks should be a reflection of the entire test and a summary of the performance of horse and rider. The average of all collective marks should be in the same range as the average of all marks for the execution of the movements of test.

We also will touch on freestyle scoring!

NEDA is working hard to address the challenges to all aspiring riders, not the least of which is distance. To supplement our virtual education and community, we have added virtual shows for your horse, and a virtual fitness session for you! Join us in a session (followed by a Q&A) guided by USDF Silver Medalist Kirsten Gray to work on stretching and strengthening your riding muscles at home, unmounted. The goal is to create new movement patterns and deeper foundational strength that translates into more accurate aids and a more balanced seat in the saddle.

Things to have handy for the session: a mat, chair, long beach towel, and two regular water bottles.
A 45-minute workout session will be followed by a 15-minute Q&A session.

Kirstin Gray is a USDF Bronze and Silver Medalist, as well as ASFA Pilates Certified Instructor. She has practiced Pilates for the last ten years, five of them as a serious and determined student of Tiffany DeMartin of Ridgefield, CT. Tiffany has instilled the importance of correctness of movement, searching for the work, isolation and strengthening of all muscles, and Kirsten has carried these concepts deeply into her daily life.

Kirsten also involves PNF (Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation) techniques into the daily STBL work in order to initiate and build new movement patterns, neurologically and physically.  Kirsten is currently running 9 ZOOM STBL classes a week (and looking forward to more), in addition to running her Equine Boarding, Teaching and Training business in Connecticut on 37 acres!

STBL Pilates for Riders helps riders locate, isolate, and strengthen the muscles and movement patterns they need to be strong, supple, balanced riders. The goal is to create new movement patterns and deeper foundational strength that translates into more accurate aids and a more balanced seat in the saddle. Strength and balance are very empowering.  STBL has organically grown into a successful resource for the serious rider looking for structured ways to strengthen and develop their seat.
